Your wedding day is full of unique and meaningful items that you will want to cherish forever after your wedding day - and we don't just mean in photos. So we've seen a lot of couples choose to preserve items as a way to hold onto a piece of their big day, or to use for future generations.
The idea of keeping your wedding dress for your daughter has dated back centuries, first starting in the 18th century. But with modern enhancements to the preservation process, it is now easier than ever to keep your wedding dress as fresh as the day you bought it for your future daughter, or future generations to wear on their big day.
With this in mind, we understand the emotions that are connected to each of these items from your big day, and therefore why you'd want to keep them.
Below are the items we're seeing a lot of couples wanting to keep:
Your Wedding Dress
At Green Lily we have planned many weddings and worked with many brides. So we know how much the dress means to you. It is quite often an extention of the bride and what she wants from her big day. It is also the only item of clothing you will own that will hold the same amount of emotion; not only emotion, but keeping your wedding dress allows you to feel the same joy, anticipation and excitement as you did when you first tried it on.
So having a preservation expert help you keep your dress in perfect condition is something we highly recommend and doing this can ensure that your dress stays perfect for decades to come!
Your Wedding Cake
We've seen many couples also choose to preserve their wedding cake in 2024 - as a little gift to themselves on their first anniversary. With them freezing their cake in the hopes of maintaining the flavour. And while a good idea, we can't gaurantee that the flavour will still taste as amazing a year later as it did on the day (it has been sitting there for a year after all!). So we often recommend our couples purchase a mini replica of their cake from their chosen bakery a year later, so that they still get the nostalgic taste of their wedding day!
Your Flowers
Sentimental flowers aren't a new thing, dating back to the victorian era, as flowers are known to carry many different meanings. However the preservation of flowers has progressed further than just pressing them, as resin can now be used to transform them into a tray, block or even a frame. So the possibilities with keeping your wedding flowers are endless, and you could even have them framing your favourite photos from your big day!
Your Accessories
Unlike your wedding dress, some of your accessories can be used over and over again. Things from your wedding ensemble such as your shoes and jewellery can be worn again and again. However when it comes to other pieces like your veil or hairpiece - you might choose to preserve them alongside your dress.
They're also contendaers for your brides of family's future. Veils and hair accessories are easy to incorporate into a wedding (or welcome party or rehearsal dinner) look, regardless of the brides overarching style - and it's lovely to think that, one day, these saved pieces will be the cool, vintage additions that take their trendy look to the next level.
Your Vows
The promises you make to your partner on your big day serve as the foundation for your married life. And while your wedding video - if you choose to have one - might capture the beautiful moment in which you exchanged those words, the actual handwritten notes can be a gorge visual reminder of your commitment to one another.
Here at Green Lily we strive to help you create moments that are going to last forever - we are taking wedding bookings for 2025 through our website!
